Free tank reconciliation check · US fuel operators

Your tanks pass the monthly test. Are they still losing fuel?

Send 2–3 months of tank readings. Within 48 hours you get a short report: which months pass the EPA inventory test, short deliveries against the BOL, fuel that went missing, and any tank that shows the pattern of a slow leak or theft.

Free, no obligation, nothing to install. Your data is used only for the report and deleted afterwards.

Losing about 21 gallons a day since Sep 3. That's 869 gallons, roughly $2,782 at $3.20/gal, and the monthly test never flagged it. The daily check did, within days.

Why the monthly paperwork misses it

±930 gal

The EPA monthly test allows 1% of gallons sold plus 130. A tank selling 80,000 gallons a month can be short by 930 gallons and still pass.

Month-end

Most logs get added up once, at the end of the month, if at all. A leak or a pattern of theft has weeks to run before anyone looks.

Noise

A short drop or a bad night looks like ordinary day-to-day variation on paper. Separating the two takes every day's numbers side by side.

How it works

  1. Send your readings

An export from your tank gauge or back office, a spreadsheet, or photos of the paper log. Two to three months, every tank. Email works.

  2. Every tank, every day

Opening inventory plus deliveries minus gallons sold, compared with the stick or ATG reading, day by day, then checked for patterns.

  3. Your report in 48 hours

A short PDF in plain English, with gallons and an estimated dollar value for each finding. Then your data is deleted.

What the report shows

EPA monthly test

Pass or fail for every month and tank under 40 CFR 280.43, with how close each month came to the limit.

Ongoing losses

The day a tank's average over/short shifts and stays shifted: the signature of a slow leak or recurring theft.

Short deliveries

Measured gain across each drop compared with the BOL, so you can file a claim with the carrier.

Unusual days

Single days far outside normal variation: a missed delivery entry, a reading error, or a night someone helped themselves.

Meter drift

Over/short that grows with sales, which points to dispensers that over- or under-register.

Water

High water bottoms and sudden rises, if your readings include water.

Who it's for

Fuel distributors and jobbers

See whether each dealer site's inventory records are real, and catch a leak at one of them before it becomes a cleanup claim. Start with one site.

UST compliance consultants and tank testers

Turn a client's messy exports into a clean findings report in minutes. Try it on one client's data, anonymized is fine.

Independent stations and truck stops

The monthly reconciliation you already owe, plus the short drops and slow losses that paper logs hide.

Fleets, farms, marinas and towns

You fuel from your own tanks and still need inventory records. Get a straight answer on whether the numbers hold up.

What to send

Whatever you already have. Any format works; columns can have any names.

  • Tank gauge history export (Veeder-Root, Franklin, OPW and others), or your back-office inventory report
  • A spreadsheet or CSV with one row per tank per day
  • Photos of the paper log, if that's what you keep

Questions

Is this leak detection?

No. It's a review of your inventory records that finds losses and their likely causes. It is not a certified release detection method and doesn't replace your tank's required leak detection or a tightness test. If a finding suggests a possible release, follow your state's reporting rules.

Why is it free?

Wetstock is new. I'm running the first checks myself to learn what operators actually need. You get a useful report; I get to see real-world data and hear what's missing.

What happens to my data?

It's used only to prepare your report and deleted afterwards. It's never shared or sold.

What if my records are on paper?

Send clear photos of the log pages. If the handwriting is readable, it can be checked.

What happens after the check?

Nothing, unless you want more. If you'd like this every day instead of once, Wetstock does it from the readings you already take and keeps the monthly EPA record ready to print. You can try it on sample data right now.
